Hof Prädikow introduces itself

A pinch of GDR charm welcomes the visitors at the entrance to the „Hof Prädikow“ site. The one-storey inspector's house was pragmatically renovated at that time. With the typical grey plaster, the standard windows from the prefabricated building programme and the concrete roof shingles, it deceives its viewers, but only at first glance. The cubature with its baroque elements already hints at what becomes a certainty when entering at the latest: The GDR only left traces on the exterior of the building, which was probably built towards the end of the 18th century. Not only the staircase with its baluster railing and the door fittings have survived from this period. If you enter the cellar, the architectural journey through time continues, here you can explore the origins of the courtyard complex: The building stands on masonry remains of its late medieval predecessor.

From 2020, the severely damaged building will be renovated. "We were able to acquire a subsidy of 200,000 euros from the pilot programme "At any age: Strengthen domestic living, relieve the burden on caring relatives", which in turn is part of the federal programme "At home in old age"", says Sören Gahrmann from the tenants' cooperative SelbstBau eG. In the future it will be made usable for living suitable for the elderly.The first residents are expected to move in in 2022.
